It was on a sunday afternoon that Kapil (A freelancer under establishment) and I were having a Pizza and were discussing about what makes a good coder, better at his/her targets.
Me: So Kapil, I've been trying to fix my mind on the Android Nanodegree that I've got enrolled into. But, I'm not able to concentrate well on it. I've skipped a month already and I don't feel any good about it. Why do you think, is happening?
Kapil: Our mind is like a monkey's mind, I mean it is as primitive as the monkey's. It likes to the autopilot mode, whenever it is set free. But, we humans have a higher order of consciousness. We should ask it to turn itself off and should tell that we would want to take the control of the steering, and drive the plane ourselves.

I have a list of around 3000+ bookmarks which I came across while preparing to learn my subjects and I have never visited most of them again. If I had visited all of them, I would have built an amazing product by now. The procrastination went on and on and it got piled up only so that it broke down, unable to support its own weight. That's when I realized that I should focus on a single thing (domain/technology/organization) and keep everything aside. But, the mind will never stop juggling the things. It is our duty to make use of the evolved consciousness, to focus it back on to that single thing. That's when you achieve something.
People who meditate can relate to this better. In meditation you focus on breath. When the mind goes wandering, you say - "come here, focus on the breath". The same is true with the work that you do. Especially if you are a freelancer and when there are a plethora of options just to distract you!
